Our Core Business
Investment Management
We provide a comprehensive analysis, ranging from cash flow projection and portfolio optimisation to asset allocation and instrument selection and monitoring
Using state of the art ALM models and portfolio optimisation tools based on Black Litterman methodology and Monte Carlo simulation helps our clients define their optimal dynamic risk levels and control framework.
Tactical asset allocation decisions are supported by an integrated suite of macro economic prediction models, market valuation tools and real-time sentiment tracking in order to arrive at a calibrated risk-return trade-off in line with the strategic framework.
Selection and monitoring of investment funds is done through a mixture of granular quantitative analysis on risk factor exposures and performance, combined with an in-depth qualitative monitoring process aligned with the quantitative profile of the fund.
A tailor-made reporting is produced to ensure full transparency and alignment with client requirements.
Credit Management
Most of the Bad Debt hangover in Italy has by now been cleared and the focus is shifting towards “better“ UTP, Past Due and Stage 2-3 credits. We provide state-of-the-art risk models to banks and other financial institutions allowing them to optimise segmentation of credits. We also provide an integrated service to guide individual credits throughout their life cycle, combining the financial, business and legal expertise required during this process.
The shift towards UTP to Stage 2 credits requires a different mindset and organization. Over the past decade, NPL management was conducted mainly by specialised lawyers and servicers, as the process was closely linked to bankruptcy law and related procedures.
The shift towards credits in a better stage of covenant requires an approach much more closely aligned with the debtor. Whereas liquidation usually makes sense for Bad Debts, for UTP credits (up to Stage 2) a going concern approach probably allows for more value creation (or less destruction) than default. This requires a radically different operating model for banks and investors ill-equipped to deal with providing support and guidance for SMEs in difficulty.
Companies and their sectors need to be analysed to determine the source of the issues they face, for example:
- Poor management
- Financing and capital structure
- Sector dynamics
- Service/Product management
Partners
In order to provide a 360-degree service, we work with a set of strategic partners providing a complementary high quality service package tailor made for demanding clients
The story of Garnell
Garnell has the passion for business and the sea in its DNA.
Its name draws its meaning from the story of the Garthneill, a mercantile sailing vessel which, in the early last century, was transporting a shipment of timber from Melbourne to Bunbury in Western Australia.
Due to unceasing, exhausting headwinds, the Garthneill had to reverse her route, and after rounding both cape horn and the cape of good hope, having circumnavigated the world, reached her destination in 76 days.
A prime example of adaptation to handle the unexpected without abandoning any original objective.
Our History
Garnell was established in 2004 by a group of people sharing a common entrepreneurial approach. Garnell partners’ diverse background blend into a unique alchemy of skills, experience and stamina that provides its clients with tangible added value. The complete absence of conflict of interests ensured by full financial backing by its partners and the all-encompassing commitment to the clients needs generate long term, trust-based relationships.
The total transparency towards our customers and partners and the strict confidentiality in handling sensitive information are the cornerstones of our business.
We carefully approach every deal with a true 360° view, thus proposing unconventional pathways and tools to maximize efficiency in complex projects.
The Garnell sailing team was established with the aim of expressing at the highest level, through the promotion and practice of the sport of sailing, the values that have animated the group since its origins. Years of intense onshore and offshore sailing and led to the creation of a Corinthian sailing team in classic yachts competitions as the Dinghy 12’ Classic National Trophy (www.dinghyclassico.it) and the Rolex Classic Yacht Trophy. The spirit of these events encompasses all our values: skills, stamina, traditional values and unexpected solutions.
